Ganahl Lumber – Oldest yard in California breaks ground on Torrance Location
Ganahl Lumber • Torrance CA
Ganahl Lumber’s new 18-acre yard, with a total of 225,000 sf of new buildings, includes an 86,000 sf retail store — the stand-out structure on the site — with will-call storage and loading area, operations offices, and two mezzanines. The large yard also provides ample space for lumber storage and an onsite mill. Utilizing a composite design, the wood-frame structure — 14-inch wide by 60-inch tall glue-laminated beams — supports an 8-inch thick concrete slab to provide for rooftop parking. This will only be the second composite-framed (wood and concrete) roof structure in the United States. To support Ganahl’s commitment to sustainability, the project features a renewable energy system that includes wind turbines and photovoltaic panels.
